But it took a lot of research and a lot of sorting through what felt like hundreds of pages to find the information we cared about.
There are a lot of excellent resources for breeders about how to pick the best stud and how to prepare for whelping and how to raise healthy puppies. But there was one thing – a huge thing – that we couldn’t find much guidance on… How do you sell puppies?
So, we figured it out ourselves.
I’m Carol, and my husband Jack and I have had long careers in digital advertising and brand marketing. And that professional experience turned out to be our single greatest asset when it came to dog breeding.
Marketing a puppy is a unique challenge, because you’re not selling a product. You’re selling a living, breathing, slobbering, adorable, new family member. So every detail in your process is scrutinized. Are they healthy? Are they vaccinated? Are they well cared for? Is your home clean? Every detail in your sales process is important, and not finding nurturing homes can be a very real risk.
We sold every puppy by 10 weeks old, but some breeders aren’t so lucky. Some get desperate and give them away for free or sell them to people who aren’t positioned to care for them. Or, in the worst cases, just… abandon them.
After our success in entering the breeding world and all the positive feedback we got from families, we knew our approach was effective.
If you found this website and are thinking about downloading this guide, you’re seriously considering breeding your dog. But if you’re looking for two hundred pages of in-depth detail about every aspect of dog breeding, this guide isn’t for you.
We wrote “How to Breed Your Dog” to help first-time breeders (and maybe even some veterans) earn top dollar on their puppies by sharpening their marketing skills. We’ve consolidated hundreds of pages of research into a compact, 50-page digital book covering the fundamentals of dog breeding and the nuances of puppy marketing. It’s an approach that helped us sell our first litter of goldendoodles at $2,000 per puppy.
And so little is left to chance, we’ve also packaged up the contracts, spreadsheets and tools we used to track profit, legitimize our brand and create a great experience for the families we sold to. And, it’s less than the cost of a chew toy.
Thank you for committing to responsible breeding!
This toolkit is awesome. The budgeting guide was worth the cost alone.
The book has awesome info! Especially how to write ads. There’s just a lot of great stuff in the book! Thanks so much for writing!
Very useful for first time breeders like us. This helped us with much of the pregnancy planning, and we were able to sell our entire litter. Even for a little more than you did 🙂
