- You will, of course, want to be able to distinguish each of the puppies from each other and measure their growth over time. Colored whelping collars are very affordable and super helpful for keeping track of each puppy.
- Weigh each puppy as he or she is born and note any distinguishing characteristics (color, size, deformities, etc.).
- Keep a running notebook where you track the growth of each puppy and have that ready for when you go to the vet. It’s a helpful reference point as you share any crucial detail around the whelping process.
- Were any puppies in the sac for an extended period or potentially with limited oxygen due to fluids in their nose or mouth? If so, having those notes will be extremely helpful (not only to you, but to each puppy’s future owner as well).
